This week in Recital Repertory, there was quite an entertaining selection of music; I was impressed. (Recital Repertory is a once-weekly class that music majors take at U of R in which we watch each other perform what we have been working on. We also have to attend recitals/concerts and turn in signed concert programs.) I often long to see contemporary music in Recital Rep, but it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. Here are works that I have chosen from this week’s meeting:
- Sea Refractions, by Mitchel Peters, for marimba solo
- Duo Sonata, by Gregory Wanamaker, for clarinet and alto saxophone
- Concertino da Camera for Alto Saxophone, by Jacques Ibert, for alto saxophone and eleven instruments
- Saxophon Concerto, by Erland von Koch, for alto saxophone and orchestra
It sure felt like a sax competition in there, but I loved it!
