I cringe just a bit looking back on this . . .

All of these social media photos of pandemic sourdough have really made me miss all of my probiotic excursions in the kitchen.

I’ve done kombucha, yogurt, and sourdough, and I may have had a little too much fun taking some eerie-looking, mad-scientist style, backlit kombucha photos back in the day. (Just in time for Halloween!)

But as much as it was a little mini-obsession that I am still fond of, I simultaneously laugh and cringe just a tad when I read this opening to my biography back in 2014:

“Sakari . . . sometimes wishes composing were as easy as making yogurt—once started, it can essentially create more of itself. However, she generally takes more enjoyment in the disorderly scrawls of manuscript paper piling up on the side of her desk than homogenous, monolithic cultures of bacteria in her crockpot (with the exception of it as a late-night snack garnished with honey and walnuts). . . .”

What a mouthful!

At the time, this was a step towards incorporating more of a personal touch to my bio and my online presence. I’ve often seen bios and about pages mention family pets, outdoor hobbies, or cooking as a personal touch.

So I wanted to do this in my own way. But it still didn’t answer the question, “What am I about, really?”

Learning to develop clarity about how I talk about my music and my work thus far has been pivotal in attracting more of the very opportunities that I’m truly passionate about, not just the ones that check a box on where I “should be” in my career.
